American Maple
This tree can be beautiful, but I would not recommend it for the desert. It requires a lot of water to look its best, and it becomes quite chlorotic without a fair amount of fertilizer and iron.
On the other hand, the “whirlybird” seeds are fascinating to children and adults alike. A mature tree provides a lot of shade.
