Flowers for Hummingbirds: Red Canna

The hummingbirds love this flower!
It is not a great “companion plant” for roses, because the rhizomes can become very invasive. Nevertheless, I do grow it because it is so attractive to the hummers in the southwest desert

  1. Nice photo. I don’t know if any of these plants grow in your area of the country, but I know they are known to attract hummingbirds. These include the following: petunias, annual red salvia, autumn sage and shrimp plants, or the firebush.

  2. Thanks, Zoe. Funny you should mention autumn sage, because just this morning I took a photo of one, and have not yet had time to post it. Autumn sages do extremely well here, as do the annual red salvias. Petunias do well for some people (I’m not one of them!), and I am not familiar with the other two. But I will look them up.
Check back tonight or tomorrow for a photo of some autum sage, and also trumpet vine.
Thanks for taking the time to read and to comment.
