Mermaid June 2009

Well, it is now 2.5 years since The Big Snow of 2006 almost destroyed the beautiful ‘Mermaid,’ a Hybrid bracteata introduced in 1918, and officially classified as an “Old Garden Rose.”

‘Mermaid’ is finally back to its full glory, if not yet its full size.

The round holes you see in the leaves are made by cutter bees (the females), who use them to line the “nurseries” where they lay eggs.
